Let the ingredients speak.

Opened in 2017, Fence & Post is a Canadian restaurant shaped by respect for ingredients, community, and land. We cook with the seasons, celebrating Alberta and Canada’s produce while preserving each ingredient’s character. Simplicity and refinement bring a fresh perspective to familiar flavours. Sustainability informs our care for the people behind our food, the environment, and our shared planet.

The people behind the table

Meet the team.

Chef-owner Chris Hartman, restaurant manager Tailleur Oulton, and sous chef Max Hoogveld lead a team devoted to thoughtful, memorable dining. Our setting balances ease with elegance. Chef

Chris Hartman

Chris began working in kitchens at 14, then studied cooking and baking at Ottawa’s Cordon Bleu. An opportunity in France led to seven years in hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants around the world.

Back in Calgary, he became chef at the Bears Den, where working with local growers sparked a lasting passion. He continued that work at Farm restaurant. Fence & Post brings together his travels, two decades of kitchen experience, and a love of Alberta’s ingredients.

Brandie Ferrell

Brandie’s hospitality experience spans more than 20 years. Work across Canada and travels abroad have fed her curiosity about wine, taking her to new places to learn and taste.

That spirit of discovery shapes her approach to the list: keeping it fresh, seeking out distinctive wines, and celebrating smaller producers.
